Dan McDermott, who previously served as video coordinator for the Boston College men’s basketball team, has been promoted to Director of Basketball Operations, announced today by head coach Jim Christian.
McDermott was the video coordinator for the last nine seasons. A 2004 Boston College graduate, he was a four-year student manager for the basketball team, specializing in video breakdown and exchange.
McDermott’s responsibilities as video coordinator included coordinating film exchange, assisting the coaching staff with video editing for self and opponent scouting, and supervising the managerial staff. He acted as a technical consultant, keeping the coaches and staff informed on the latest technology and equipment being used by other top programs.
McDermott has been heavily involved in scheduling opponents in the last few seasons and serves as the director of the Boston College Boys Basketball Camp.
In addition, McDermott has been actively involved with the American Cancer Society and its Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. He has organized the Boston College Coaches vs. Cancer 5K the last four years and is on the executive board of the Coaches vs. Cancer Massachusetts Tip-Off.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College in 2004. McDermott earned his master’s degree in business administration from BC’s Carroll School of Business in December 2010. He had previously earned his master’s degree in higher education administration from BC’s Lynch School of Education in 2007.
