The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball program has added Carlos McMath to its staff as Director of Operations, as announced by Head Coach Stan Heath.
McMath served as an Associate Head Coach at Northwood University in Midland, Mich. from 2022-24 after serving as Head Coach at Schoolcraft Community College for the 2021-22 season.
“Carlos is a very experienced coach from Northwood, as well as Head Coach at Schoolcraft Community College,” Heath said. “He’s well-connected in the Saginaw area where there’s been an abundance of talent over the years. He brings a great work ethic and is very knowledgeable and will do very well handling our operations.”
Prior to his stint at SCC, McMath was an Assistant Coach for the Timberwolves during the 2020-21 season. Before that, McMath spent six seasons as Head Coach at Delta College, highlighted by a 2018 trip to the national tournament’s final four, which marked the program’s first appearance in the national tournament since 1989. For his efforts, McMath was named District 10 and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Coach of the Year.
“I am excited to be joining a great university and coaching staff led by Coach Stan Heath,” McMath said. “I look forward to contributing my time, talents, and gifts that are needed for us to be successful on and off the court.”
McMath got his start in coaching at Detroit Osborn High School in 2008-09 before serving Arthur Hill High School from 2009-15.
McMath, a 2005 graduate of Arthur Hill High School, graduated from Wayne State University in 2010 with a degree in Communications with a focus on Rhetorical Analysis. During his time at WSU, McMath was a football student-athlete, in addition to competing as a member of Wayne State’s nationally-ranked forensic team.
McMath’s education continued beyond Wayne State as he earned a Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2013.
