Current Assistant Coach of the Southwestern College men’s basketball team, Jimmy McSorley, has been promoted to the lead assistant coaching position for head coach Matt O’Brien heading into the 2022-23 campaign. With the promotion, McSorley will assume several new responsibilities, as well.

“Coach Mac has made a positive impact on our program since the day he arrived,” said O’Brien. “His work ethic, passion, and recruiting knowledge enable him to be effective in all phases of collegiate coaching.”

McSorley has spent the last three years as a member of the staff at Southwestern, and was partially responsible for leading the Builders to a 66-27 record over that span. He has coached two NAIA All-Americans during his time at SC, and has been their lead recruiter for the past two years. With his promotion, he becomes the lead scout, on-court development director, and community service director for 2022-23 and beyond.

“I am excited to continue working with Jimmy, and I look forward to our players and recruits learning from him in the future,” stated O’Brien.

The position of lead assistant coach for SC men’s basketball is in great hands, as the program continues to achieve with the best of NAIA men’s basketball programs around the country. The move to promote McSorley from within further promotes the importance of the Builder family. We are ecstatic to see the continuation of progress for SC men’s hoops.
