Kansas City Men’s Basketball will enter new direction for the 2026-27 season, as was announced today by Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. Marvin Menzies‘ tenure as head coach will come to a close following the current season, his fourth at the helm.
Menzies will lead the team for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, but a national search for the program’s future leader will commence immediately.
“Coach Menzies has been a great ambassador of our men’s basketball program. Since arriving in Kansas City, Coach Menzies and his staff have been committed to the holistic development of our student-athletes and the advancement of the UMKC campus community at large,” Martin said. “We wish Coach Menzies all the best in his professional and personal endeavors moving forward.”
Menzies was announced as the eighth head coach in Kansas City Men’s Basketball history on April 26, 2022. He entered as the most decorated coach in program history with five NCAA Tournament appearances during his time at New Mexico State.
In his four seasons with the Roos, he has compiled a 44-71 record, including a 4-14 start to the 2025-26 season. His tenure has been highlighted by four All-Summit League performers and a second place regular season conference finish in 2023-24. Throughout his 16-year head coaching career, he has won 290 games, the 88th-most among active Division One head coaches.
Off to a 1-3 start in Summit League play, the 2025-26 Roos will host six more games in the Swinney Center this season. Following a week on the road, KC is back in town on Jan. 24 for a meeting with Omaha. Tickets are available at www.KCRoos.com/Tickets.
