Michael Lindsay Named Assistant Basketball Coach at South Dakota School of Mines

South Dakota School of Mine’s men’s basketball head coach Jason Henry recently announced the addition of Michael Lindsay to the Hardrocker coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.

Lindsay played college basketball for the Mayville Comets in Mayville, N.D. (graduated in 2015). He brings the “player’s perspective” to the Hardrocker coaching staff after finishing his college career. He has also played basketball overseas, competing for a professional team in Tasmania, Australia last year and was also set to play professionally in England this past year. Visa restrictions prohibited him from going, so he decided to begin his coaching career.

“This is my first college coaching job and I look forward to joining a well-established staff with Coach Henry and Coach (Eric) Glenn (assistant). I am excited to learn what it takes to be part of a successful college basketball program at SD Mines,” Lindsay said. “I am anxious to get started. This has been my dream to follow in my father’s footsteps as a college basketball coach (Weber State, the University of Colorado-Boulder, Hamline University and Becker High School).”

Lindsay, a Becker High School graduate in Minnesota, played three years at Mayville State before graduating in 2015 with a degree in business administration.

“Mike is a welcome addition to the Hardrocker men’s basketball coaching staff,” Henry said. “He was a talented college player and has quite a bit of knowledge of the sport. His philosophies mesh well with what we are doing and I am confident Coach Lindsay will contribute to the success of the Hardrocker men’s basketball program. He will not only be a super asset on the court but also behind the scenes – especially in the recruiting area.”

The Hardrocker basketball program will enter its third year of competition in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with the official start to the 2017-18 season set for Nov. 10 at a tournament in Texas.
