Michael Prather Named Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Louisiana College

Louisiana College Athletic Director and men’s basketball Head Coach Reni Mason announced today the hiring of Michael Prather as assistant men’s basketball coach.

Prather, who spent last season as an assistant at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., is no stranger to the American Southwest Conference and the style of play and athletes that compete within it. He is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University where he played for the Tigers then spent 10 years as an assistant coach following his graduation.

During his time at ETBU as a coach he was responsible for a defensive system that ranked in the top-10 nationally on two occasions, created and maintained scouting reports on opponents, and helped spearhead recruiting operations. He was an instrumental part of ETBU’s run to the 2014-15 ASC regular season and conference tournament championship, which resulted in a trip to the NCAA Division III Elite 8. Last season at Millsaps he helped the team to their most wins in a season since 2011.

“Michael has been around this league for a number of years,” Mason said. “Not only as a coach but as a player, so he clearly understands the territory. Every coach that I spoke to had nothing but glowing reviews about his work ethic and his ability to recruit Division III student-athletes.

“It is so important for us to have someone that matches our core values here as a school. Michael Prather is a family man; he’s a husband, a father, and a mentor to so many other student-athletes across the country. I’m excited to go to work with him. I think it’s an outstanding hire for us and we are very fortunate to have him.”
