According the Detroit News, there are three finalists for the for the vacant assistant spots on John Beilein’s staff at Michigan. Beilein is currently looking to replace Bacari Alexander and LaVall Jordan who both became head coaches this off season. Alexander took over at Detroit, while Jordan headed to Milwaukee.
Two of the finalists are former Wright State head coach Billy Donlon and current Oakland associate head coach Saddi Washington. Donlon has been the head coach at Wright State for the past six seasons before being dismissed this spring following a 23-11 season. Washington has been on Greg Kampe’s staff at Oakland for the past ten seasons. He’s a Michigan native who No. 1 overall draft pick in the Continental Basketball Association in 1998 by the Grand Rapids Hoops.
The third candidate could not be confirmed. Some had speculated that it could be Patrick Beilein who is currently the head coach at DII LeMoyne College (NY), but according to the report, John Beilein dismissed that rumor on Monday.
It sounds like both positions could be filled by the end of the week.
