Mills named Director of Player Development at Wake Forest

Josh Mills is in his first season on the Wake Forest basketball staff in 2014-15, serving as the program’s Director of Player Development.

In his current role, Mills serves as a mentor for Demon Deacon student-athletes in their academic and professional development. He also assists in recruiting by organizing and maintaining databases, sending mailouts and monitoring recruiting updates online.

"I am excited to be a part of Wake Forest basketball and thrilled for the opportunity to work with Coach Manning," said Mills. "I feel very fortunate to be here, and I look forward to keeping the winning tradition of Wake Forest basketball strong."

Mills came to Wake Forest following a one-year stint on the staff at Florida Gulf Coast University where he served as the Director of Student Development and Conditioning Coordinator. He helped the Eagles claim the school’s first-ever Atlantic Sun regular season championship with a 14-4 league record and a berth in the NIT, FGCU’s second-consecutive postseason bid.

Prior to his time at FGCU, Mills spent two seasons at Texas Tech from 2011-13, serving as the program’s Assistant Director of Basketball Performance in 2011-12 and its Director of Video Production in 2012-13. Mills assisted in a variety of capacities with the Red Raiders basketball program, including strength and conditioning, video and film systems, basketball operations, academics and student-athlete housing.

Mills spent six seasons as an assistant coach at three different institutions prior to joining the Texas Tech staff.

While finishing his undergraduate degree at North Texas, Mills was an assistant coach at North Lake College in Irving, Texas from 2005-07. He helped North Lake win the 2005-06 Division III Junior College national championship.

After completing his degree at North Texas in 2007, Mills joined the staff at Highland Community College in Highland, Kan. and spent two seasons with the Cougars from 2007-09. He served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and also developed the team’s weight training and conditioning activities.

Mills was then an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons at Independence Community College in Independence, Kan. from 2009-11.

Mills also was a coach and nutritionist with Impact Basketball in 2008, assisting in the training, conditioning and instruction of elite prep, NCAA and NBA players. While at Impact, he worked with over 75 NBA players including Chris Anderson, Chauncey Billups, Serge Ibaka and Paul Pierce.

Mills also spent time coaching on the AAU circuit, serving as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mustangs program from 2010-11, the same program for which Wake Forest forward Daniel Green played.

A native of Irving, Texas, Mills graduated from the University of North Texas in 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology. He went on to earn his master’s degree in Health & Human Performance from Pittsburgh State University in 2011. Mills also has his college strength and conditioning certification through NSCA-CSCS.
