University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Men’s Basketball Coach Rob Jeter announced today some changes to his staff. Chris Hill, who has spent the last two seasons as the program’s video coordinator, has moved into the role of director of basketball operations, while former Panther Allan Hanson has been appointed to Hill’s previous post.
"I am thrilled to welcome Allan back to the program as our video coordinator and have Chris move into the operations role," Jeter said. "Chris and Allan are high-character people and I feel it is important to have individuals who have worn the Milwaukee jersey be a part of our program. Chris has done a terrific job for us in a couple of different capacities and has earned and is ready for this opportunity, while Allan gained some valuable experience coaching at the high school level and is a perfect fit as the video coordinator. Both Chris and Allan will serve as tremendous role models for our players."
Hill, who played at Milwaukee from 2001-06, has spent the last two seasons as the program’s video coordinator and a year ago helped the program to its fourth NCAA Tournament berth in the last 12 years. A Chicago native, Hill also spent the 2011-12 season as the program’s academic adviser.
During his stellar playing career, the point guard made 71 starts and totaled 754 points, 291 rebounds and 301 assists. He started 24 games in 2004-05 and averaged career bests of 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game to help the Panthers to the NCAA Sweet 16. Then in 2005-06, Hill started all 31 contests and pitched in 7.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.8 apg as Milwaukee reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament under then first-year coach Rob Jeter.
A winner in every sense of the word, Hill was part of three Horizon League regular-season titles, three Horizon League Tournament crowns and helped the team to three NCAA Tournament berths during his playing days. In all, the Panthers won 108 contests, including three games in the NCAA Tournament.
In four seasons as a player at Milwaukee from 2004-08, Hanson contributed 4.4 ppg and knocked down 93 three-point field goals. His best season came in 2006-07 when he averaged 7.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg and 2.9 apg in 31 appearances. As a freshman, he played a role on the team that reached the NCAA Sweet 16 by tallying 1.0 ppg in 21 contests. The following year he shot 47 percent (21-for-45) from three-point territory and was a key player off the bench for a Jeter-coached squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Hanson, a former standout at Wauwatosa East High School who will now head up the Panthers’ video efforts, helped Milwaukee to a pair of 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances in his career. He spent the last two seasons as an assistant boys basketball coach at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., where the Knights won back-to-back WIAA Division 4 state championships and posted a 49-7 record.
Milwaukee, which won 21 games a year ago and returns three starters from that team, opens the 2014-15 season at Auburn on November 14.
