Mineral Area CC announces Tony Irons as new Head Basketball Coach

Mineral Area College has hired Tony Irons as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Irons replaces former Head Coach Greg Heiar, who accepted the head men’s basketball coaching position at Trinity Valley Community College in April.  Coach Irons has been the head boys basketball coach at Vashon High School since 2015.  In his nine seasons as head coach at Vashon, Irons has won seven Missouri State High School Activities Association State (MSHSAA) Championships and accumulated an overall record of 216-38. 

Prior to his time at Vashon, Coach Irons spent time coaching at Madison College Prep (2012-2015), Imagine College Prep (2009-2012) and College of the Ozarks (2006-2009) As a student-athlete, Irons won a MSHSAA State Championship at Lutheran North High School in 2002 and an NAIA National Championship at College of the Ozarks in 2006.

Coach Irons holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from College of the Ozarks and a master’s degree in educational administration from Lindenwood University.

MAC Athletic Director Jim Gerwitz says “We are excited to have Coach Irons as the 6th Head Coach in Mineral Area College Basketball History. Tony’s experience developing high level athletes in the Midwest will propel MAC Basketball to the next level.”
