Aaron Coombs, an assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma College for the past two seasons, has been named by Missouri S&T as its new assistant coach for the university’s men’s basketball program.
Coombs will fill the position previously held by Joey Goodson, who resigned to accept an assistant coaching post at his alma mater, Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania.
Over the last two seasons, Coombs has served as the assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma in Tonkawa, Okla,, where he worked exclusively with the team’s forwards and post players. He also handled the team’s game day walk-through sessions and the defensive strategies for the team in its game preparation.
In addition, he was responsible for the team’s strength and conditioning program and also served as a marketing instructor in the school’s business department. Northern Oklahoma finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 17-12.
Prior to his two years in Oklahoma, Coombs spent a year as an assistant coach for the AAU Flight 22 team in Wilmington, N.C., where he handled individual instruction for the post players and handled the defensive aspects for that team. In addition, he coordinated with the event managers in assisting with tournament scheduling in surrounding states for that team, which won the championship of the Big Shots Clemson Tournament that consisted of over 100 teams.
