Monday’s rumors……

A few quick rumors to start the week…..

I’ve heard that Providence has made contact with Illinois-Springfield head coach Kevin Gamble about a spot on the Friars staff. Gamble played for PC head coach Keno Davis’ dad (Dr. Tom) at Iowa, and then spent some time in the NBA with the Celtics, Heat, and Kings. Not sure if he they are talking about an assistant spot with Gamble (none are currently open) or an operations position. Director of Player Development Mike Mennenga has reportedly left the program.

Oregon assistant Kenny Payne met with Kentucky head coach John Calipari this weekend about a spot on UK’s staff. There have been rumors swirling about Payne joining Coach Cal ever since Ernie Kent was fired at Oregon at the end of the season. Former Wildcat Tony Delk is also involved here, but Payne definitely has the advantage at the moment.

It sounds like Vermont head coach Mike Lonergan is going to promote Director of Operations Matt O’Brien to assistant coach. O’Brien would replace assistant Matt Hahn who departed for Robert Morris last week.
