Monmouth University has announced that head coach King Rice has received a five-year contract extension to remain in the role through the 2028-29 season.
“President Leahy and I are pleased to announced a five-year contract extension with head coach King Rice,” said Director of Athletics Jen Sansevero. “King has earned this extension through his tireless dedication and commitment to Monmouth Athletics. King is a fierce competitor and drives his student-athletes to be leaders in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. We look forward to watching this same competitive spirit take flight in this challenging 2024-25 season.”
Rice is set to begin his 14th season tonight, and is Monmouth’s all-time Division I wins leader with 207. He is a three-time conference Coach of the Year and three-time regular season champion, with nine victories over high-major programs. Under Rice, all 45 seniors to come through the program have graduated.
The 2016 John McLendon National Coach of the Year, Rice is a two-time finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, awarded to the top minority head coach in Division I basketball. Nineteen Hawks that played under Rice have gone on to play professionally, and 23 players have earned all-conference honors. Rice mentored the program’s all-time leading scorer, Justin Robinson, to consecutive MAAC Player of the Year honors, as well as MAAC Rookie of the Year Micah Seaborn.
Rice and the 2024-25 Hawks tip the season tonight at the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State, with tip set for 7:00 p.m. in East Lansing, MI.
