Montana men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle, who last week lost assistant coach Freddie Owens to Oregon State, wasted little time filling his staff vacancy. He did it with a familiar face and a family name that resonates among athletic circles in the state.
Kurt Paulson, director of basketball operations for the Grizzlies in 2009-10 and 2010-11, joined Tinkle’s staff shortly after Owens’ departure. Paulson joins Jonathan Metzger-Jones and Kerry Rupp as the Grizzlies’ assistant coaches under Tinkle, who will be entering his eighth season at Montana next fall.
