The University of Montevallo and head men’s basketball coach Danny Young have announced the hiring of Nathan Kennedy as assistant coach.
"I am honored to join the University of Montevallo men’s basketball program. Coach Young has built a national power here in Montevallo, and I have been blessed with an opportunity to join his coaching staff and continue to try and bring a national championship here to this university."
Most recently, Kennedy was a graduate assistant coach at the University of West Alabama. With Kennedy on the bench, the Tigers reached their first NCAA Tournament since 1982 and recorded 14 wins in the Gulf South Conference, a school record.
Kennedy also served as a graduate assistant for Southwest Baptist University and an assistant coach for the University of Charleston. He got his start in coaching in 2009 when he served as the assistant coach for Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Kennedy was an accomplished Division II player, starting his career at West Liberty University before transferring to Salem International University. In his final year at SIU, Kennedy started at point guard in every game and led the team in assists.
Kennedy graduated from Salem International University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education and is currently finishing his Master of Physical Education degree at West Alabama.
