Morris added to Siena Basketball Staff

New Siena Men’s Basketball Head Coach Nevada Smith continues to build his first Saints staff. Shaun Morris, who spent the past nine seasons at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Quinnipiac – including the past three as associate head coach – has been appointed an assistant coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shaun, Laura, Benton, Camden, and Averie to our Siena family,” said Smith. “I have known of Shaun for a long time and have always admired his ability to evaluate, develop, and retain great players. Having someone on staff who has been in the MAAC and had success has already been a huge asset to our program. Shaun is going to help our players and our coaching staff be the best version of ourselves on a daily basis.”

Morris arrives in Loudonville with more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience, highlighted by six seasons serving as an associate head coach at the Division I level. Morris resume features stints on staff at Quinnipiac (2017-26), Boston University (2011-17), Division III Williams (2009-11), and Towson (2005-09).

“My family and I are thrilled to join the Capital Region and become a part of the Siena community,” said Morris. “The basketball program at Siena has such a rich and storied tradition of success, and I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Smith and our staff to build upon that.”

Morris matriculates to Siena following a near decade-long run at Quinnipiac, where he helped build the Bobcats into a perennial MAAC power. He wrapped up his tenure in Hamden with a three-year stint as the associate head coach, during which time Quinnipiac averaged 21 wins and captured the program’s first two MAAC Regular Season Championships in both 2024 and 2025.

Previously named to the Silver Waves Media Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistant Coaches list, Morris helped guide the Bobcats to postseason appearances in the 2019 CIT and 2024 CBI. During his first season following his elevation to associate head coach in 2023-24, Quinnipiac set a program-record with 24 wins while securing their first MAAC Regular Season crown. Morris also mentored a trio of MAAC Player of the Year honorees during his tenure with the Bobcats in Cameron Young (2019), Matt Balanc (2024), and Amarri Monroe (2025).

Morris previously spent six years at Boston University, the final three of which he served as the Terriers associate head coach from 2014-17. He aided BU to three postseason tournament berths with the 2013 and 2016 CIT as well as the 2014 NIT in a season which the Terriers secured their first regular season title in 10 years while posting the program’s second highest ever win total (24).

Morris played a role in Williams advancing to the NCAA DIII Final Four in both of his seasons on staff, highlighted by a National Finalist finish in 2010. He began his coaching career at Towson, first as a volunteer (2005-06), then as director of basketball operations (2006-07), and finally as an assistant coach (2007-09).

A 2005 graduate of Lycoming with his degree in business, Morris led the Warriors to the 2004 NCAA Tournament and is the program’s all-time leader with 355 career assists.

A native of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Morris and his wife, Laura, are the proud parents to sons Benton and Camden, and daughter Averie.
