MassBay Community College announced that Donald Morris Jr. has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach.
Coach Morris has been a college basketball coach for the past 13 years, coaching at Newbury College, Lesley University, Suffolk University, and Daniel Webster College.
During his time at the collegiate level, Morris has produced two Division III All American Players and nine Professional Players.
His resume includes working closely with staff from Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as working as a scout for the New England Falcons Women’s Professional Basketball team, and coaching basketball camps across the country.
Coach Morris also owns an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program in Newton, Basketball 2 the Limit, which has helped send more than 250 student athletes compete at the collegiate level.

His experience at the college level, combined with his professionalism, will get us back on the path to success very quickly.”
Coach Morris grew up in Somerville, MA, where he began his basketball career as a four-year starter for Somerville High School. During his time at Somerville High, he was honored as the team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as a two-time Greater Boston League All Star and one of the Boston Globe and Boston Herald’s “preseason players to watch.” After graduating Somerville High School, he received a basketball scholarship to attend Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, then went on to receive a full scholarship to attend Dean College in Franklin.
During his time at Dean College, Coach Morris was a two-year captain, leading scorer for the team, awarded the team’s MVP award, and an All-Conference Nomination for the Bulldogs. He also played basketball at Division II Southern New Hampshire University.
Coach Morris holds an associate degree in sports management from Dean College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Lesley University. He also holds a Registered Athletic Administrator Certification from the University of Maine, and is a USA Gold License Coach. Coach Morris and his wife reside in Melrose.
