Mount Marty College has announced the hiring of Robin Burgard as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. Burgard will join the Lancers from Sioux Falls, SD where he has been a high school coach for over 20 years.
Head Coach, Andrew Baker, is very pleased to have Burgard joining his staff stating, “Coach Burgard will bring a tremendous presence to our team as well as a lot of experience. He was a highly successful coach at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School and I know he will help out our team. I am very excited that he will be working with us.”
Burgard received his undergraduate degree from Northern State University in 1984, where he also played basketball. He spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School with Lyle Pearson. Burgard took the reigns as head coach in 2005. During his five year span from 2005-2009, he was named Sioux Falls Coach of the Year three times. He led Lincoln to a State Championship in 2009 and was named South Dakota Coach of the Year.
“Robin knows the region, conference, and what type of players we need. He is well connected with South Dakota high school programs and coaches which he will be able to use in recruiting. I am excited for him to share his knowledge with our guys and be a mentor for them as well,” Coach Baker said.
Burgard will also be responsible for other duties on the MMC campus. He will serve as the Men’s Residence Hall Director and will help support the entire athletics staff with scheduling and game event management.
