Mt. Ida staff update

Mount Ida College men’s basketball Head Coach Rico Cabral in his 22nd year at the helm of the program has hired four new assistant coaches for the 2012 season.

Jaykyri Simpson will begin his first season as an Assistant Coach for the Mount Ida College men’s basketball team and will aid 22nd year Head Coach Rico Cabral in all operations of team management this season. Simpson was also recently hired in April 2012 as a full-time employee in the Admissions office as Retention Coordinator.

Most recently, Simpson was the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for Division III member the University of New England since 2009. Simpson was involved in all aspects of the team’s operation including recruiting, practice planning, game operation, fundraising, individual workouts for players and all on-and-off the court duties for the Nor’Easters. Simpson has been involved in numerous summer basketball camps to aid and help develop strong basketball talent around the region as well.

Simpson’s playing resume is impressive as a two-time first team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) player at the University of New England from 2007-2009. Simpson led the Nor’Easters to a regular season and CCC post-season tournament championship back in 2008-2009 and was named Defensive Player-of-the-Year for the CCC that same year.

Simpson is a 2010 graduate of the University of New England with a Bachelor’s in Sports Management and a minor in Business. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at St. Joseph’s College (ME) in Business Administration specializing in Leadership. Simpson is a coach-in-residence at the College as well.

Travis Hillery’s playing resume is impressive as he twice garnered GNAC Rookie-of-the-Week, Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), during the same season. Hillery was one of two players last season to eclipse 1,000 points in a career becoming the 12th player in the history of the program to do so. Hillery was the newest member of the 500 rebounds club ranking fourth all-time in the books at 587. Hillery is fourth all-time in offensive rebounds (236) and defensive rebounds (351) as well.

Hillery is a 2012 graduate of Mount Ida College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. He is currently pursuing a MSM for Leadership in Sport at Mount Ida College.

Winford Eggie McRae, Jr. joins the Mount Ida College men’s basketball program under the direction of Head Coach Rico Cabral for his first season as an Assistant Coach. McRae will aid Cabral and the Mustangs in every aspect of the team’s operation.

Most recently, McRae was a part-time Assistant Coach for the Curry College men’s basketball team during the 2011 season assisting in all regions of team management.

Daniel Sullivan will begin his first year as Assistant Coach for the Mount Ida College men’s basketball program under the direction of 22nd year Head Coach Rico Cabral.

Most recently, Sullivan was the head manager for the 2011-2012 Syracuse University men’s basketball program under Head Coach Jim Boeheim. Sullivan was responsible for facilitating and streamlining team practices and workouts, assisting in day-to-day basketball operations, supervising and managing 25 student managers, and managing the recruiting database for the coaching staff.

Sullivan has coaching experience in Jim Boeheim’s Big Orange Basketball Camp, the Mike Hopkins and Gerry McNamara Basketball Academy, Syracuse University Elite Camp, Duke Basketball Camp, as well as experience in player development with Purdue University at the Purdue Player Development Camp in 2012. Sullivan is a 2012 graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s in History. Sullivan is a coach-in-residence at the College as well.
