NAIA DIRT: Langston U (OK) opens

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard from multiple sources that Philip Stitt has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach at NAIA Langston University (OK).

Stitt took over at Langston back in 2019 after spending six seasons as the head coach at Marion Military Institute. In his first season at LU, Stitt led the Lions to a 14-16 record. Since then however, his squad had struggled, going 0-10 in a COVID shortened 2020-21 season, and they currently sit at 0-9 so far this year.

The veteran head coach also spent five seasons at D2 Winston-Salem State (2001-06) where he went 94-51 (.648), and two seasons at Florida Community College (2006-08). Additionally, he served as a D1 assistant at both Grambling an NC A&T.

It sounds like LU assistant coach DeWitte Mandley is currently serving as the interim head coach.

When asked about the move, a Langston official said that the university “does not comment on personnel matters.”

More on this one when an official announcement is made.
