NAIA DIRT: Pat Knight steps down as Head Basketball Coach at Marian University

Pat Knight has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach at NAIA Marian University. Knight, the son of Indiana legend Bob Knight, had been Marian’s head coach since 2024.

Knight told WISH News 8, “I quit because they wanted me to fire a staff member.” Knight added that he disagreed with that directive, and therefore, chose to resign.

This past Saturday, Knight was ejected from MU’s game vs Goshen which earned him a one game suspension that was due to be served tomorrow. No word on how this may have played a role in Knight’s resignation.

Knight, a coaching veteran, has also served as the head coach at Texas Tech (2008-11) and Lamar (2011-14).

Marian is currently 5-17 (2-10 Crossroads League) and went 11-17 (5-13 CL) in Knight’s first season.

More on this one once Marian releases an official statement.
