NAIA Goshen College (IN) opens

Associate Head Coach Kyle Capps will begin serving immediately as the Maple Leafs Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach as Maple Leafs Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jon Tropf just announced he is pursuing a new opportunity in college basketball. A national search for a new head coach is underway.

Interim Head Coach Kyle Capps has spent three seasons on the Maple Leafs sideline. He was an assistant coach for the 2016-17 and 2020-21 seasons before being named the Associate Head Coach for the most recent season. He spent three years as an assistant at Siena Heights University as well. Capps is a 2014 graduate of Goshen, where he played basketball for all four seasons. He was the acting head coach during Goshen’s 99-64 win this season over Lincoln Christian as Tropf was celebrating the recent birth of his son, Nico.

“We are excited for Kyle to step into the interim head coach role,” Albertin shared. “He is passionate about Goshen College and the men’s basketball team and will be a good leader while we begin a national search.”

Tropf was at the helm of the Maple Leafs program for five seasons and served as an assistant coach for three seasons before that. As head coach, Tropf led five Crossroads League Academic All-Conference players, five All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention players, two All-Crossroads League Third-Team players, and one All-Crossroads League Second-Team player in Tahj Curry.

“We thank Jon for his pursuit of excellence while coaching here at Goshen College,” said Dr. Erica Albertin – Goshen’s director of athletics. “Jon led the team in many community engagement projects and faith studies and encouraged success both on and off the court. All the best to Jon in his future endeavors.”
