Grand View men’s basketball head coach Denis Schaefer announced that assistant coach Tyler Long has been promoted to associate head coach effective immediately.
“I’m proud to promote Tyler to associate head coach,” Schaefer said. We are grateful for his expertise and dedication and look forward to the impact he will continue to make on our program. I am excited to continue working with Coach Long in his expanded role.”
The upcoming 2024-25 season will be Long’s third at Grand View.
Tyler Long‘s promotion to Associate Head Coach at Grand View comes after a track record of proven success at both Fort Scott Community College and Emporia State University. During his time at Fort Scott, Long recruited and coached four All-Conference players, guided the team to 19 wins, and helped them achieve double-digit conference victories for the first time in over a decade. His recruiting prowess also resulted in multiple players advancing to Division 1 and 2 programs.
At Emporia State, Long helped the team secure a 20-9 overall record, their first 20-win season since 2006-07, including wins against two top-five nationally ranked teams. Additionally, he played a crucial role in coaching All-American Tray Buchanan, who led the nation in scoring with 25.6 points per game. These achievements make Long a key figure in Grand View’s efforts to continue improving the men’s basketball program.
Grand View’s season will commence on October 31st at 7:00 p.m. in Sisam Arena in Des Moines, IA. The Vikings will meet with Midland University, which GVU owns the all-time record (10-4) against.
