NAIA NEWS: Pleasant steps down as Head Basketball Coach at Rochester Christian

Rochester Christian’s Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Dr. Klint Pleasant, has announced that he will be stepping down in mid-April, ending 53 seasons with a Pleasant at the helm of the program. Pleasant was announced in January as the ninth president of Southwestern Michigan College and will start on April 6.

Pleasant has enjoyed remarkable success throughout his 15 seasons leading the Warriors, compiling a record of 327-115 and an overall record of 360-163, which puts him in the top 25 among active coaches in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Pleasant was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame (BCAM) in October of 2025.

Under Coach Pleasant, the Warriors have seen seven different student-athletes named NAIA All-Americans, 66 named NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 33 named Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) or Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) All-Conference, and 72 named WHAC Scholar-Athlete, and has seen RCU appear in a NAIA Coaches Poll in each of the last 14 seasons, and they have finished in the top five of the WHAC six times during the nine seasons Rochester Christian has been a part of the WHAC.

In addition, Pleasant has earned a WHAC, A.I.I., and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Coach of the Year award, and an A.I.I. Conference NAIA Coach of Character Award. Pleasant has led the Men’s Basketball team to a pair of USCAA National Championships (2013 & 2018) as well as three NAIA National Tournament Appearances (2013, 2017, and 2021). The 2013 season also saw the program’s highest ranking in the NAIA Coaches Poll, its first and only 30-win season, and the only win over a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I opponent in program history.

Pleasant also served as the Senior Vice President of Athletics and Special Assistant to the President, not only seeing the department grow from 10 teams to 26 teams, but also aiding in the Warriors’ transition to the NAIA in 2011 and joining the WHAC in 2017. In 2024, Pleasant was named the Most Influential Coach by the RCU student-athletes.

Pleasant originally arrived at RCU in 2005 to serve as the Vice President of Development, before transitioning to the Vice President of Enrollment in 2008, serving in that role until 2017. Pleasant oversaw an increase in the student-athlete population from 139 to over 400 student-athletes, as well as record institutional enrollment (both student-athletes and traditional students) for Rochester Christian.

Coach Pleasant took over the Men’s Basketball program before the 2011-2012 season, after his father, Garth Pleasant, retired following nearly 40 years of coaching the Warriors.

Rochester Christian President Reggies Wenyika had this to say about Pleasant: “I kindly ask everyone to join me in thanking Dr. Klint Pleasant for his work over two decades at Rochester Christian University. With his storied career, dedication, and tremendous successes as a coach and as a Senior Vice President, he has strengthened the very fabric of Warrior Athletics at RCU, one that will be felt for generations. His legacy and impact extend beyond athletics through the many roles he held at RCU over the years. His contributions and legacy will continue to guide us long after his departure. I thank him deeply and pray and wish him continued success and fulfillment in his next assignment.”
