Jack Nelson has resigned as head coach of the University of Mary men’s basketball program after four seasons leading the Marauders.
“Jack poured himself into this program over the last four years, and we thank him for his hard work,” said University of Mary Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Marcus Wagner. “We will miss seeing the Nelson family around the McDowell Activity Center and wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”
Nelson took over the Marauders program in April 2021. During his tenure, he coached one Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Newcomer of the Year, one All-NSIC first-team selection, an NSIC Player of the Week recipient, and 16 NSIC All-Academic Team honorees. The Marauders twice earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award, with 16 players receiving Honor Court scholar-athlete recognition. Additionally, five scholar-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
On the court, Nelson led the Marauders to the program’s first NSIC tournament road victory in 2022. Over four seasons, UMary posted a record of 34-79 overall and went 21-66 in NSIC play.
A nationwide search for the next head coach of Marauders men’s basketball will begin immediately.
