NC Central staff update

North Carolina Central University head men’s basketball coach LeVelle Moton has completed his staff for the 2014-15 season as he has named Chris Skinkis to the position of assistant coach, Jake Williams as the director of basketball operations, Derrick Mallison as video coordinator and promoted Justin Bradley to graduate manager.

"I’m elated to have each of these guys here at NCCU," said Moton. "All of them bring their own strengths that will make this staff as strong as it can be."

Skinkis joins the staff after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. IHCC is widely regarded as one of the top community colleges in the country. During the last three years, Indian Hills produced 23 players that signed with NCAA Division I programs and the Falcons were ranked No. 1 in the country during that time as well.

"Chris was arguably the top recruiter in junior college basketball," said Moton. "The influx of talent he recruited to Indian Hills kept them as a top five program and a national powerhouse. Here at NCCU, we will rely on his relationships and connections to some of the top-tier talent across the board."

Williams comes to the Bull City from Middle Tennessee State University where he worked as a student assistant under head coach Kermit Davis from 2012-2014. During that time, the Blue Raiders made the NCAA Tournament as regular season champions in the Sun Belt Conference, finishing the 2012-13 season 28-6 overall, 19-1 in league action. Williams handled video editing, film exchange, and assisted with on-the-court development along with day-to-day operations of the program.

"Jake comes to NCCU highly-regarded and will be a great director of basketball operations," said Moton. "His experience at MTSU and the way he enhanced the overall effectiveness of the program, will be relied upon as we aspire to do the same here."

Coming back for his second season with the program, Mallison spent last season as a manager of the team, while helping out with day-to-day operations. As video coordinator he will be in charge of preparing the video scouting reports for the coaches along with film exchange among the other tasks. Mallison graduated magna cum laude from NCCU with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a marketing concentration. He is now pursuing a master’s of business administration at NCCU.

"Derrick is young, energetic, and a hard working guy," said Moton. "His editing background will enhance the sights, sounds, video, and scouting reports of our program."

The final coaching staff move will see Bradley move up to graduate manager as he spent last season as the director of basketball operations. He will now take on more of a development role with the program.

"Justin is a young man that I coached in middle school who possesses the intrinsic value of a relentless work ethic," said Moton. "His organization and basketball IQ will only enhance the overall effectiveness of our student-athletes both on and off the court."
