Director of Athletics Simon Gray has announced that after six years as the men’s basketball head coach, Chris Casey has been relieved of his duties at Niagara University. Gray will begin a national search immediately to find the 22nd head coach of the Purple Eagles.
“Chris Casey is a man of integrity and he was 100 percent committed to Niagara University during his time as head coach of our storied men’s basketball program,” said Gray. “Chris worked tirelessly, but we were not able to sustain success over the six years of his tenure. The tradition of Niagara Basketball is strong. The process of finding a servant leader who will return our program to excellence is underway. Onward to Victory.” In his six seasons at the helm, Casey led the Purple Eagles to a 64-129 record, including a 39-77 record in the MAAC. His best season was 2017-18 when the Purple Eagles were 19-14 (12-6 in conference play). That team participated in the 10th CollegeInsider.Com Tournament (CIT). Casey coached five student-athletes who were selected to All-MAAC teams, including the 2017-18 MAAC Co-Player of the Year.
Casey’s teams have also lived the university’s mission of community service and elevated the commitment to this impact through their work with Community Missions of Niagara Frontier, the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club and the Magdalene Project at St. George’s Church in Niagara Falls, New York, to name a few.
