Nichols College men’s basketball head coach Tom Glynn has announced the addition of Mark Jenkins and Jake Citron to his coaching staff.
Citron spent last season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Springfield College, where he helped the Pride post a 20-8 mark and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Citron was responsible for organizing practices, producing scouting reports and statistical analysis, and attending recruiting showcases.
A 2011 graduate of the University of Tampa with a degree in sport management, Citron also spent one year as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Dean College (2012-13), where he managed film study and breakdown, arranged community service and fundraising opportunities, organized practices, and was the lead recruiter for the program.
Citron has also worked for the United Soccer League and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and completed internships at the Tampa Bay Times Forum and with the Babson College athletics department. He will receive his Master of Science in sport psychology from Springfield in the spring of 2015.
"Jake is a young coach who established tremendous recruiting ties during his time as an assistant coach at Springfield and Dean," explained Glynn. "Jake has a great basketball mind and will be a great addition to our program."
Jenkins, meanwhile, was a team manager for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball national championship team in 2009-10. He was worked a myriad of camps over the years, including the Bay Path Regional VoTech Minutemen Summer Camp (2014), the Ayer Department of Recreation Panther summer basketball program (2012-14), University of Connecticut men’s basketball camp (2010-13), UMass Lowell camp (2011-12), Boston Celtics youth development summer program (2011), and Hoop Group at Seton Hall University (2010).
Additionally, Jenkins currently works for Ayer-Shirley Regional High School as a travel head coach, boys basketball summer league director, league head coach, and travel basketball board member. Since 2007, Jenkins has been either an assistant or head coach of the North Central Blaze Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
"Mark is going to be a tremendous addition to our program here at Nichols College," said Glynn. "He is a tireless worker and will be an excellent role model for all our student-athletes. He has experience at the college, high school, and AAU levels, which will be instrumental in our recruiting efforts."
Jenkins worked for the University of Connecticut Department of Recreation as a Senior Supervisor (former Interim Intern) from 2009-14. He was named to the Neag School and Education and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Dean’s List in the Fall of 2012 and the Spring of 2013. Jenkins received his bachelor’s degree from UConn in 2013 and his Master’s this past spring.
The Bison won a program-record 23 games in 2013-14 and finished in first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) for the first time in program history. They open the 2014-15 season at the Babson Invitational on November 15-16.
