Nicholson named Trojan men’s basketball assistant coach

Dakota State men’s basketball head coach Gary Garner is excited to announce the hiring of Sam Nicholson as the assistant coach.  He began his duties earlier this week.

Nicholson comes from Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.), where he was a graduate assistant men’s basketball coach during the 2020-21 season before promoting as the assistant coach in 2021-22.

He is a 2020 graduate of South Dakota, where he worked as a student assistant coach with the Coyotes’ men’s basketball program.  He was a member of the team’s conference championship season in 2016-17.  His duties included helping set up meals, travel, and film.

Nicholson is a native of Blair, Neb.  He was a varsity assistant coach at Alcester-Hudson High School during the 2019-20 school year.
