Nielson Named Assistant Basketball Coach at Loyola University New Orleans

Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball head coach Stacy Hollowell announced the addition of assistant coach Tyler Nielson to his staff Thursday afternoon.

“We are thrilled to add Tyler to our staff and excited about the invaluable experience he brings to our program having worked with Coach Tim Floyd and his staff,” said Hollowell. “He understands the importance of recruiting and is committed to the development of our student-athletes as leaders on the court, in the classroom, and beyond their time at Loyola.”

Nielson joins the Wolf Pack from The University of Texas at El Paso where he spent the past three years working on the men’s basketball staff. During the 2017-18 season he served as video coordinator for the Miners where he helped compile scouting reports, run film sessions and walkthroughs, and work players out. A graduate assistant from 2015-2017, Nielson worked with numerous student-athletes now playing basketball professionally during his time in El Paso, Texas under head coach Tim Floyd.

A graduate from UTEP, he received his undergraduate degree in multidisciplinary studies and his master’s in leadership studies. Nielson previously worked in the nonprofit sector, starting his own company following his stint as a walk-on member of Dick Hunsaker’s basketball team at Utah Valley University.

Nielson is married to his wife Michelle and originally hails from Round Rock, Texas.
