Northwestern head men’s basketball coach Chris Collins has been fined and publically reprimanded by the Big Ten for his actions in the Wildcats game vs Purdue on 1/31. The Conference issued the following statement:
“The Big Ten Conference issued an institutional fine of $5,000 and public reprimand of Northwestern University men’s basketball head coach Chris Collins for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy. The violation is a result of Coach Collins’ actions at the end of the Northwestern versus Purdue game on January 31, 2024. The fine and reprimand are a result of Conference Agreement 10.01 stating in part that ‘The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”
