Dodge City men’s basketball Head Coach, Brad Witherspoon has made an addition to his coaching staff adding Alec Nys as his second assistant coach.
Nys comes to Dodge City from Laurel, Montana, and enters the college coaching realm after serving as a student manager at Montana State University. While at Montana State, Nys was part of a culture change for the Bobcats as they turned from a losing record to winning the 2022 Big Sky Championship and earning a berth into the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
When asked about what excited him about the opportunity at Dodge City, Nys said “I’ve been a winner everywhere I’ve been, and I don’t plan on that stopping at Dodge City. I’m excited to get involved in and around the community of Dodge City. Hopefully, we can create a culture on and off the court to best serve this great community.”
The Montana native brings along other experience coaching and teaching the game of basketball as he helped start up the Montana Rebels AAU program, becoming one of their first coaches and administrators. He also has taught club basketball at several levels from grades fourth to 12th.
In high school, Nys was a multi-sport athlete that was a four-year basketball letterman and three-year track and field letterman. He was part of a state championship team at Laurel high school in 2015.
“I’m looking forward to learning the game from Coach Witherspoon to help me pursue my future goals,” said Nys about what he hopes to gain with the coaching opportunity at Dodge City.
