Following up on a story from earlier today…Cal Poly has made the news of Head Basketball Coach John Smith’s dismissal official with the following statement:

Cal Poly Director of Athletics Don Oberhelman announced today that head men’s basketball coach John Smith will not be returning next season. Coach Smith will lead the Mustangs through the remaining three games of the season.

“Thanks to John for his leadership and commitment to our university,” Oberhelman said. “We wish him the very best with what is next for him and his family.”

A national search for a replacement is underway.

Smith has gone 30-114 (.208) in his five seasons at Cal Poly, including a 4-25 (0-17 Big West) record this season.
