I first mentioned this one in the DAILY DIRT back on 3/21 – it’s now been made official. Here’s the official statement from Rosemont on their men’s basketball coaching change:
Bob Hughes Men’s Basketball Coach, has decided to leave Rosemont to pursue other opportunities
Bob has led Rosemont’s men’s basketball team for nearly 12 years. He is Rosemont’s all-time leader in career wins and led the men’s basketball team to its first NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 2019.
Bob was named the 2015 Colonial States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He has recruited and mentored some of the top players in the CSAC, including 36 student-athletes to place on the CSAC All-Academic Team, and 19 players to All-Conference Honors, including the 2016 Player of the Year Marcus Thomas and the 2024 Rookie of the Year Dejuan Taylor.
Over the years, Bob has contributed to Rosemont in many ways, such as serving as interim director of athletics from October 2021 to May 2022. Bob has also served as assistant athletic director, coached the golf team, worked in the admissions department, and taught as an adjunct professor, embodying a true spirit of teamwork across the College.
I admire Bob’s can-do spirit and connection to Rosemont’s mission. I thank him for his dedication to the College and to our student-athletes. We will most certainly feel his absence. At the same time, please join me in wishing him the very best as he embarks on new opportunities.
Rich Casey, director of athletics, shares my sentiments and said, “I thank Bob and his family for 12 years of service to Rosemont as head coach for our men’s basketball program and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Bob Hughes shared: “It has been an honor to serve the Rosemont community for the past 12 years. I want to thank all of the faculty, staff and especially all the student-athletes for making my time on the Main Line truly special.”
Additional details will follow about the search for a new men’s basketball coach.
