OFFICIAL: Donlon steps down at Kansas City

Kansas City Athletics has officially announced the transition of Men’s Basketball Head Coach Billy Donlon.

“Melissa and I would like to thank the Kansas City Basketball community allowing us to feel like family,” Donlon said. “We began this journey 3 years ago and promised to put our heart and soul into making this basketball program something we would all take pride in.”

In three years at Kansas City, Donlon coached two conference Defensive Players of the Year, an All-League First Team player and four Second Team/Honorable Mention players.

“We believe it is in the best interest of our family that I step down as Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” Donlon said. “I would like to thank Chancellor Agrawal, Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Martin and the Board of Curators for the incredible opportunity to lead this program. I will always be grateful. Last, and most importantly, I want to thank the players and my coaches and staff over the past three years for all of their dedication and hard work.”

“I want to thank Billy and his wife Melissa for their positive contribution to the Roo family,” Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin said. “Coach Donlon has left an ineradicable stamp on our program, staff and our campus community at large. We wish Coach Donlon and his family all the best moving forward.”

Kansas City Athletics will begin a nationwide search for its next head men’s basketball coach immediately.
