OFFICIAL: Elmore named assistant at Union (KY)

Back on 9/29, I mentioned that I had heard Rusty Elmore would be named as an assistant at Union (KY) [http://hoopdirt.com/blog/753d0118/daily-dirt-9-29-14/…]. It’s now been made official…

Rusty Elmore enters his first season as the head assistant coach in the Union men’s basketball program in 2014-15, joining the athletic department in September.

Elmore comes to Barbourville from Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), where he served as assistant coach from 2011-14 for the men’s basketball program. While in Columbia, the Blue Raiders were one of the more successful programs in all of NAIA Division I, advancing to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals in 2013, on their way to a No. 3 ranking in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

With Elmore on staff, LWC won back-to-back Mid-South Conference Regular Season titles (2012 and 2013) and the tournament championship in 2013, as the program made two straight appearances at the NAIA Division I National Championship from 2012-13. In all, Elmore coached seven NABC Academic All-Americans at Lindsey Wilson, along with two NAIA All-Americans.

Prior to getting into coaching, Elmore worked for eight years as media executive with WGN-TV in Chicago, the Chicago White Sox Radio Network, ABC Asheville, and NBC Atlanta 11Alive.
