I teased this move earlier this month (D3 DIRT) – it’s now official. Doc Eslinger has departed Caltech and has been named as the associate head basketball coach at Brown. Here’s the official release:
Brown Men’s Basketball Head Coaching Chair Eric Reveno has named Doc Eslinger as the program’s new Associate Head Coach.
“The opportunity to come back east, work with Coach Rev and the rest of the staff, and continue to enhance the program at a high level was an ideal situation,” Eslinger said. “We have a platform for innovation at a world-renowned university. I’ve always held Brown in high regard and love the vibe and location of Providence.”
Eslinger joins a staff of Reveno, fellow Associate Head Coach Tyson Wheeler, Assistant Coach Omar Lowery, and Operations Coordinator Andrew Becil.
Eslinger comes to Brown after serving as the Head Coach at Caltech since 2008. There, he set the program’s all-time wins record, broke over 175 program records, had 10 All-Conference players, and the first two professional players in program history (Mike Edwards & Nasser Al-Rayes). Al-Rayes was also the first national team member in the program’s history, joining Qatar. Eslinger coached the program’s top-two all-time leading scorers (Al-Rayes and Marcus Gee), the program’s all-time leader in blocks (Al-Rayes), all-time leader in assists (Alec Andrews), and the all-time leader in field goal percentage in a season (Pavlos Stavrinides).
During his time at Caltech, the program enjoyed the most conference wins in a season, the best start in program history, and the most victories in a season since 1954. For the first time in program history, Caltech eclipsed double-digit wins in three-straight seasons from 2019-2022. He was named the conference Coach of the Year in 2020 and is an NABC Guardian of the Game for Education and a Caltech Honorary Alumnus.
For the past two summers, Eslinger has enjoyed experiences with NBA franchises at the Summer League. In 2025, he was an Assistant Coach with the Atlanta Hawks, where he helped on-court coaching, individual training, scouting, video and mental performance. In 2026, Eslinger was a Development Coach with the Boston Celtics at the Summer League Training Camp.
Eslinger was also a Participant at the NBA Future Business Operations Stars, which is a five-month workshop on coaching, scouting, player development, draft evaluation, and international operations. There, he also completed a project on NBA role optimization.
Prior to his time at Caltech, Eslinger was the Associate Head Coach at MIT from 2002-08. He is also a Mental Performance Consultant and received his Ed.D., Counseling Psychology & Sport Psychology from Boston University in 2002. Eslinger received a B.A. in Psychology from Clark University in 1997 where he played combo guard.
Brown will open its 2026-27 season on Monday, Nov. 2 against New Hampshire, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
