It was first reported this on 5/29 that UNLV’s Dave Rice would receive a contract extension (http://www.hoopdirt.com/news/885a87b1/extension-recommended-…). It is now been made official…
UNLV men’s basketball head coach Dave Rice’s contact extension was approved by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents on Friday during its meeting on campus.
Rice’s contract has been extended two years through the 2018-19 basketball season and includes an incentive package based upon academic and athletic success. Rice had three years remaining on his previous contract, which was for five seasons and awarded to him after completing his first year at UNLV in September of 2012.
Rice will enter his fourth season at UNLV in 2014-15. He has compiled a three-year mark of 71-32 at the helm of the Runnin’ Rebel program. The 71 wins over his first three years ranks second all-time at UNLV only to Hall of Fame coach Jerry Tarkanian (73 wins in his first three seasons in Las Vegas).
Rice has led UNLV to three straight seasons with at least 20 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances and victories over seven ranked teams, including one over the nation’s No. 1-ranked team (North Carolina in 2011).
In addition, Rice and his staff have recruited elite talent to the program, including Anthony Bennett, who became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
