It’s now been made official that Daryn Freedman has been hired as Point Park University men’s basketball assistant coach on Joe Lewandowski’s staff. He was hired after Lewandowski was named head coach Oct. 1, 2018.
Freedman has been a basketball coach for more than 20 years. On the college level, he is a former assistant coach at Duquesene University and Northeastern University under Ron Everhart. He also spent time on the staff of John Calipari at UMass and the University of Memphis. Freedman’s basketball experience also includes service with NBA teams the New Jersey Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Freedman was recognized for recruiting efforts that helped to bring in top recruiting classes at Northeastern, Duquense and Memphis. At UMass, he was a part of the staff for the 1994-95 NCAA Elite 8 and the 1995-96 NCAA Final Four.
On the high school level, Freedman served as the head coach at Kiski Prep for five years beginning in 2009 and also at Gateway High School for four years beginning in 2014.
Freedman serves as the President and Director of Basketball Stars of America, one of the largest youth basketball development and tournament companies in the country. He has also been involved with the Five Star Basketball Camp for more than 10 years.
