OFFICIAL: Holt named DBO at Northeastern

On 8/8, I said that I had heard that New Haven assistant Matt Holt would be named as Northeastern’s Director of Basketball Operations (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/11c33162/daily-dirt-8-8-14/…). It’s now official…

Northeastern men’s basketball head coach Bill Coen announced the hire of Matt Holt as the new director of basketball operations. Holt, a graduate of Northeastern, rejoins the Huskies after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at New Haven and Rhode Island College.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matt home to Northeastern," said Coen. "Matt has a true passion for the game of basketball, matched only by his passion for his alma mater—Northeastern. He’s gained valuable experience and perspective during his three years at New Haven and Rhode Island College that will benefit him and our program as our director of operations. Matt was a constant in our office during his time as an undergraduate student and it’s wonderful now to welcome him back in a professional capacity."

During his prior two years as an assistant coach at New Haven, Holt recruited prospective student-athletes and facilitated player development and game preparation. He aided in the development of New Haven’s Eric Anderson, who earned NE10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in both seasons Holt was an assistant. When he was not on the court with the Chargers, Holt coordinated team travel, as well as community events such as youth camps, coaching clinics, and alumni weekends.

Holt spent the 2011-12 season at Rhode Island College, where he assisted in scouting opponents. He was responsible for organizing daily team schedules for the Anchormen, and worked closely with the compliance office to support academic progress for basketball student-athletes.

In his career as an assistant coach, Holt has helped coach teams to three 20-win seasons as well as three NCAA tournament appearances.

As a student at Northeastern, Holt was the head senior manager for the men’s basketball team, and helped coordinate team video needs and team travel logistics.

Holt earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northeastern in May 2011, and received a master’s degree in management of sports industries from New Haven in December 2013.
