Thanks to great sources who had HoopDirt.com way out in front of this one over the weekend (Dickinson State Dirt). It’s now been made official that Josh Vaughan has been named as the new Blue Hawk Head Men’s Basketball coach.
“We are very excited to have Josh become our next head coach”, stated athletic director Pete Stanton. “Josh is a proven winner who will bring great energy and leadership to our program. Josh is a guy we felt great about through the entire process, and I know he will be a good fit in our program and athletic department. He is a proven recruiter and has built many relationships in recruiting that will be important for the future of the program.”
Coach Vaughan spent the last three years as an assistant coach at the University of Mary. While at UM Josh was responsible for recruiting, player development, and scouting.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to serve as the next head basketball coach at Dickinson State University. I am honored by the confidence that both President Dr. Thomas Mitzel and Director of Athletics Pete Stanton have demonstrated as we went through this process. They made it clear not only does Dickinson State offer a high-quality education and top athletic experiences to its student-athletes, but also offers a great place for me and my family to live and be a part of the community.”, said Vaughan.
Prior to Mary, Coach Vaughan was on staff at North Dakota State as Director of basketball Operations. During this time at NDSU, the Bison won back-to-back conference championships and NCAA appearances.
Vaughan spent time at Minnesota Moorhead as an assistant coach, and was there a part of an NCAA tournament team. Coach Vaughan also was the Director of Basketball Operations at Wofford College where he was again a part of a conference championship and NCAA tournament team.
Originally, from Braham, Minnesota where he played for his father and was recruited to play at NDSU. Vaughan was a part of the 2009 Bison team that won the Summit league and qualified for the NCAA tournament where they played the University of Kansas.
“I look forward to guiding the program and bringing a new energy to the way our student-athletes attack their daily lives on and away from the basketball floor.”, said Vaughan.
Vaughan replaces Justin Wetzel who resigned last week. Wetzel guided the program for three seasons.
