Safet Kastrat was hired as the Radford Men’s Basketball Director of Player Development in August 2021.
Prior to joining the staff at Radford, Kastrat served as the special assistant to the head coach at Rider University under Head Coach Kevin Baggett for two seasons. Kastrat was involved in every aspect of the program at Rider during his tenure there. Some of Kastrat’s job responsibilities at Rider included but were not limited to opposing team scouting reports with the assistant coaches, on campus recruiting, evaluation of prospective players, camp co-director, and assisting all staff members with any tasks deemed necessary. While at Rider, Kastrat co-directed one of the best high school team camps in the country. Kastrat ran a 72 team event on Rider’s campus which had teams from all over the east coast. During this team event, there were over 25 national talent evaluators/scouts from all over the country coming from services such as 24/7 sports, ESPN, Phenom Hoops Report, Delaware Valley Hoops Report, Elite HS Scouting, Pro Insight, The Miller Report, The Hoop Group, City of Basketball Love, and many more. Prestigious high school programs such as the Patrick School, Camden HS, Imhotep Charter, St. Frances Academy, St. Benedict’s Prep, and many more were in attendance as well.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kastrat orchestrated the Who Knows You and Two Sides to the Game networking platform which served as a zoom seminar for college, HS, and AAU basketball coaches. This event hosted over 1,000 coaches from all over the country during the beginning months of the pandemic.
Prior to joining the staff at Rider, Kastrat served as an assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach at the Hun School of Princeton in Princeton, NJ. While at Hun, Kastrat was involved in every aspect of the program there as well. Some of Kastrat’s job responsibilities at Hun included but were not limited to on court coaching, preparing film and scouting reports on opponents, served as an assistant liaison between student athletes and college coaches, study hall monitor, assisting in practice planning, coordinating and running summer camps alongside head coach. During the summer of 2019, Kastrat coordinated and ran an NCAA live period high school event at the Hun School of Princeton alongside head coach Jonathan Stone. During that event, there were over 200+ college coaches from all over the country in addition to over 30 national talent evaluators/scouts. While at Hun, Kastrat coached numerous players that moved on to play collegiately at the division one, two, and three level. The most notable schools that the players went on to play at were the University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, Princeton University, Babson University, The College of St. Rose, and many more.
While at Hun, Kastrat traveled all over the country to work summer basketball camps. Kastrat worked basketball camps at Duke University, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas A and M, Seton Hall University, Rider University, Columbia University, The Hoop Group and more. In addition, Kastrat was the lead skills instructor and one of the all star game coaches at the prestigious Jim Couch National Training Showcase in the Bronx where there were over 65 division one prospects from all over the country.
Kastrat graduated from Rider in December of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree (Major: Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management and Management and Leadership). Kastrat graduated from college within three years with a 3.9 GPA. In addition, Kastrat was the first in his family to graduate from college.
Kastrat is of Albanian and Bosnian descent with strong roots to Eastern Europe. Kastrat’s parents immigrated to America specifically in the South Bronx, N.Y. and Clifton, N.J. from Eastern Europe years ago.
