Here’s the official release from NJIT on the resignation of Brian Kennedy yesterday:
Brian Kennedy, who served as Head Coach of the NJIT men’s basketball program for the last seven seasons, has resigned, Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan announced on Monday.
Kennedy, a four-year assistant at NJIT before taking over as head coach following the 2015-16 season, helped lead the Highlanders to a program-record 22 wins and a second-round appearance in the CIT in 2018-19.
Additionally, Kennedy was a member of the coaching staff for the program’s historic upset victory at #17 Michigan in 2014 and a pair of CIT semifinal appearances.
“I would like to thank Coach Kennedy for his hard work and dedication to the University and our student-athletes during his time at NJIT as both an assistant and head coach,” Kaplan said.
A national search for a new head coach is underway.
