HoopDirt.com first mentioned this move back on April 15th (Daily Dirt – 4/15/16). It’s now been made official that Kevin Driscoll, who completed a successful run on the men’s basketball coaching staff at Holy Cross, has joined NJIT as an assistant coach.
A 2004 graduate of Misericordia University in Dallas, PA, near Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, Driscoll leaves Holy Cross following a highlight season. The 2015-16 Crusaders won the Patriot League championship tournament, winning four games, all on the road to advance to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Once in the NCAAs, Holy Cross defeated Southern University in a “First Four” game for the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory since 1953.
Driscoll’s head coach at Holy Cross in 2015-16 was Bill Carmody, who, in his days as an assistant coach, successfully recruited Brian Kennedy to attend Princeton in the 1980s.
Joining the staff at Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, in 2013-14, Driscoll had a hand in the team’s first 20-win season since 2006-07. The Crusaders then accepted a postseason bid to the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT), where they defeated Brown for the first national postseason win at Holy Cross since 2004-05.
Two years later, Holy Cross captured the 2015-16 Patriot League championship and a berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
Prior to joining the Holy Cross staff, Driscoll was director of the Hoop Group Elite/Eastern Invitational and Skills/Pocono Invitational for four years, managing all aspects of the world’s largest basketball camps, which included over 3,500 players in the summer and 1,800 players for the spring and fall showcases.
Kevin Driscoll earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management and was a four-year letter winner on the Misericordia Cougars, who he helped to two postseason Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Tournament appearances. He is among the Misericordia career leaders with a field goal percentage over 55 percent.
After college and prior to joining the Hoop Group, Driscoll was an assistant coach at Albright College in Reading, PA, for three seasons (2006-2009). He helped lead the Lions to an overall mark of 44-32 during his three years on the staff, including records of 17-9 and second-place finishes in the Middle Atlantic Conference in both 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. During his time at Albright, Driscoll also served as an admissions counselor. He began his coaching career as the head boys’ coach at Hamburg (Pa.) Area High School (2004-2006).
“Kevin has quickly built a reputation as one of the top recruiters in the New Jersey and New York area”, first-year head coach Kennedy added. “He is a rising talent in the college basketball coaching industry and I am so excited to welcome he and Rose, his wife, to the NJIT Men’s Basketball Family. His experience, energy and passion will undoubtedly help to lead NJIT basketball to new heights.”
