Following up on something that HoopDirt mentioned earlier this week…the details of Brad Korn’s new contract at Southeast Missouri have now been made official. Here’s the statement from SEMO:
Southeast Missouri Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Korn agreed to a contract extension through the 2029-30 season, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Brady Barke announced.
Korn’s new contract, which was finalized in April, will run through April 30, 2030. It extends his current deal that was signed through the 2026-27 season.
“Coach Korn continues to demonstrate his ability to lead a championship caliber program and I’m excited for him to continue to lead our men’s basketball program into the future,” said Barke. “Our student-athletes are excelling in the classroom and on the court and are representing our University well.”
In 2024-25, Korn led SEMO to its first outright Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title in program history. After finishing 10th in the OVC and missing the league’s tournament the year before, the Redhawks finished with an overall record of 21-12 and 15-5 in conference play. In terms of wins, the +12-increase marked SEMO’s best one-year turnaround in program history.
The Redhawks secured their first-ever double bye in the OVC Tournament where they ended their season in the championship game. SEMO, at one time, won 10-straight games from Jan. 25 to Feb. 27 for its longest winning streak in its NCAA Division I era.
Korn was a unanimous pick for the first OVC Coach of the Year honor in his career. He became only the second head coach in program history to win the prestigious award behind Gary Garner (1998-99).
“I have a deep appreciation for everyone at SEMO, and we are grateful that our administration believes in our vision and supports our efforts,” said Korn. “My family and I enjoy this community, our coaches, players and their families. I am proud of the work we have done to this point winning two championships in the last three years.”
SEMO had three All-OVC selections for its most in a season in program history to date. Guards Rob Martin and Teddy Washington, Jr. gave the Redhawks a pair of First-Team All-OVC honorees for the first time in 20 years.
Statistically, SEMO ranked fourth in the nation in defending the three holding opponents to just 28.3 percent beyond the arc. The Redhawks held opponents to five or less 3-pointers made in 22 of their 33 games.
The Redhawks led the OVC in 3-point field goal percentage defense, scoring margin (+6.97), turnover margin (+3.03) and conference wins (15). In league games, SEMO topped the conference in total attendance (36,331, 20 games), scoring margin (+7.7), free throw percentage (.740), field goal percentage (.471), 3-point field goal percentage defense (31.1 pct.), turnover margin (+2.7) and assist/turnover ratio (1.32).
Additionally, SEMO broke a program record with 269 steals and reached 20 or more wins in a season for just the third time since it moved to the NCAA Division I ranks.
