Following up on a story that HoopDirt.com first reported on Friday (DIII DIRT)…
Lyndon State College has officially announced that David Pasiak has joined the Hornet athletic department as its next Sports Information Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
Pasiak comes to Lyndon from Morrisville State College, where he served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and as the Assistant Director of Morrisville’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program. He helped the Mustang men’s basketball team to a 22-7 overall record, a North Eastern Athletic Conference championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. He also played a major role in the individual development of Mustang players, including 2016-2017 NEAC Rookie of the Year Kevin Dennis.
Before coming to Morrisville, Pasiak spent over 15 years as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. He also served in a number of administrative and student service roles at Onondaga, including serving as Associate Athletic Director for over four years.
Pasiak led Onondaga’s men’s basketball team to post-season play in each of his seasons as head coach. He is the winningest coach in program history and recorded a 264-198 overall record leading the Lazers. His 2006-2007 team captured the school’s first Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship in 15 seasons, and the Lazers advanced to five MSAC Championship games under his watch. Pasiak was named MSAC Coach of the Year on three occasions and was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Coach of the Year in 2003.
Pasiak moved 61 Onondaga student athletes on to play in four-year college programs, including 11 who played at Division I or II scholarship programs. He produced 2 All-Americans, 6 Academic All-Americans, 20 All-Region players, 2 conference Players of the Year, and 24 All-Conference players. Most significantly, his teams were consistently among Region III’s best performing in the classroom.
Among his administrative accomplishments, Pasiak headed the design, development, and launch of Onondaga’s athletics website. He also created game previews, recaps, and feature stories for the website and for other media outlets. Pasiak also brought the Lazers into the world of social media, as he launched and maintained Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube accounts for both the men’s basketball program and the overall athletic department. In addition, he compiled and distributed the weekly MSAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Notebooks for 8 seasons.
Pasiak has a total of 33 years experience in coaching basketball and working in education. He has coached and worked in administration at levels ranging from high school to NCAA Division I. He is a 1984 graduate of Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and of the College Sports Information Directors of America, a past president of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, and a former Empire State Games Head Coach.
Lyndon Athletic Director Christopher Ummer had this to say about Pasiak: “Dave comes to Lyndon with experiences and background that will enhance both Hornet men’s basketball and the athletic department.”
Morrisville State College head coach Joseph Smith made these remarks regarding Pasiak’s hiring: ““Lyndon State is getting an experienced and successful leader in Dave Pasiak. He was an integral part of our NEAC Championship last year and had a huge impact both on and off the court at Morrisville State. Although I am saddened to see him leave, I know he will do a tremendous job at Lyndon State. Coach Pasiak has been a colleague, a coach, a mentor and a friend of mine for many years. I am happy that he will become the next head coach at Lyndon State. I know that he will bring enthusiasm, discipline, caring, and dedication to the basketball program and college as a whole. The hornets made a great hiring decision in Coach Pasiak.”
When hired, Pasiak stated “I’m very excited to join the Lyndon State College family, and would like to thank President Elaine Collins, Athletic Director Chris Ummer, and the members of the search committee for giving me this tremendous opportunity. It quickly became apparent to me what a special place Lyndon is. I look forward to working with Hornet student athletes and coaches, and the entire college community.”
Pasiak will oversee and have responsibility for all areas of sports information for Lyndon’s 15 NCAA Division III sports. He will make his debut as Head Men’s Basketball Coach on November 15th, when the Hornets host Fisher College.
