I mentioned this in the "Daily Dirt" last week. Just wanted to pass along the official press release now that Alex Popp has been tabbed as the DBO at Holy Cross:
The College of the Holy Cross has named Alex Popp as its director of men’s basketball operations, as announced by head coach Milan Brown. Popp’s primary responsibilities will include serving as the team’s travel and video coordinator, in addition to assisting with recruiting efforts, summer camps and day-to-day office duties.
Popp comes to Holy Cross from Middlebury (Vt.) College, where he served as the associate head coach for the last two seasons. The Panthers had a great deal of success during Popp’s time on the staff, posting a record of 26-4 during the 2011-2012 season and a 25-4 mark in 2012-2013. Middlebury also advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, after making it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012.
Popp was previously an assistant coach at Springfield (Mass.) College for two years, while earning his master’s degree in sports management. He helped the Pride to a pair of winning seasons, with the team posting an overall record of 29-24 during his two years on the staff. Popp also has a great deal of experience as a coach at summer basketball camps around the country.
A 2008 graduate of Assumption College with a bachelor’s degree in business, Popp helped the Greyhounds to an overall record of 24-11 and a trip to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen during his senior year. He was a three-year letterwinner at Assumption, after playing his freshman season at the University of Minnesota as a recruited walk-on.
