Thomas College Director of Athletics Shanda Ness announced today the hiring of Joe Scheuers as Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

“I am very excited to have Joe be the next leader of our men’s basketball program,” said Ness. “I believe he has a great vision for the future of Thomas Basketball and I am very confident he will provide a tremendous student-athlete experience for those involved in our program.”

Scheuers joins the Terriers following four seasons at Division III Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, where he served as Associate Head Coach. He helped lead the Quakers to their most successful year in recent memory this past season, winning the most conference games in program history since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2010 and securing the team’s highest finish in the HCAC standings.

“I could not be more thankful for this opportunity to lead the Thomas Men’s Basketball Program,” said Scheuers. “I really want to thank Shanda and everybody involved with the search. Everybody from President Lachance, to admissions, to the athletic department has been very genuine and sincere about their support and love for Thomas Athletics. I am very excited to build off Thomas’ past successes while helping our players reach their full potential in all aspects of life. On behalf of my wife, Candace, and daughter, Noel, our family is delighted to be joining the Thomas family.”

Prior to his time at Earlham, Scheuers spent two seasons at Illinois College and one year at Trine University, serving as an assistant coach at both institutions. During his two years at Illinois, he helped the program double their win total from a 6-17 record in 2011-12 to a 13-10 record in 2013-14. At Trine, his alma mater, Scheuers helped lead the Thunder to a third place conference finish for the first time in six season.

Scheuers, a native of Crescent City, Illinois, graduated from Trine in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University in 2014. As a student, Scheuers was a member of the men’s basketball teams at both Trine and Greenville College.
