Illinois has officially fired Bruce Weber. Here are a few things from AD Mike Thomas’ press conference…

*Thomas named assistant coach Jerrance Howard as the interim head coach. Thomas stated that he is a big fan of Howard’s, but said it will be new coach’s decision whether to keep him or not. Howard would serve as head coach in NIT if Illinois is selected.

*Weber’s buyout is $3.9 million – paid out over 3 years ($1.3 million/yr).

*Thomas wants an "ambassador" in the next head coach. Someone who realizes how much external responsibilities there are. Also wants someone who can recruit Big Ten talent.

*He said that there is already a great deal of interest in the job. Will conduct a national search and "most likely" use the assistance of a search firm.

*Thomas quote – "I think Bruce will coach again. Somebody would be lucky to have Bruce as their basketball coach."
