Old Dominion Head Basketball Coach Jeff Jones will announce his retirement during a noon press conference at Chartway Arena on Monday, the Monarch athletic department announced.
Jones, who stepped away from the team following a heart attack in December, had been at ODU for the past eleven seasons. In addition to his time with the Monarchs, he also spent 13 years as the head coach at American (2000-13), and 8 years as the head coach at Virginia (1990-98). Over his 32 seasons as a D1 head coach, he put together a 560-418 (.573) record.
During his career, Jones’ teams made 13 postseason appearances, including eight NCAA Tournament appearances. He has taken three schools in three different conferences to the NCAA Tournament, including an Elite 8 run in 1995 and a 1993 Sweet 16 appearance. He is a two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year (2002, 2009) and a Conference USA Coach of the Year (2019).
